A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats. This simple statement is an expression of a general truth. It is also the concept by which we are designing the website community entitled “Project Management for Today – www.pmfortoday.com”. A simple truth that can become the strength behind a community. A community, that through the sharing of knowledge, creates an environment where all members of the community grow and are better for the engagement in the community.

Project Management for Today (www.pmfortoday.com) is a new, online community that is being designed from the beginning to provide a variety of services to the Greater Project Management community. Okay, I know exactly what you are thinking, there are several websites that are on the internet that serve the needs of Project Managers. You’re right, there are, and many of these sites all do the same things. What makes Project Management for Today different? For that matter, what makes any of the online communities different? Here at Project Management for Today, we believe that we have found a different and unique niche that will bring value to the time that you spend engaged in the community.

What makes Project Management for Today unique?

What is this “niche” that we believe we have found? This unique niche is YOU. We are building this community from the ground up around the uniqueness of each Contributing Author who engages with us to make the investment in their own Personal Brand. I am sure you have been told more than once that “You Own Your Own Career”. Where you go, how you advance, and the path of your career is in your own hands. This statement has more truth than you may realize, and we are here to help you take steps to “own” your Personal Brand.

Why do I need a Personal Brand?

Personal branding is essentially the ongoing process of establishing a prescribed image or impression in the mind of others about who you are, what your capabilities are, and what you bring to the conversation when they engage with you. Your Personal Brand is one way that you take control of the direction of your career. Taking the time to make a conscious and intentional effort in the ownership and development of YOUR Personal Brand is an investment in your career that will pay dividends for years.

As you grow and extend your Personal Brand, it will open new doors for opportunities for speaking engagements, to become a consultant, and possibly new roles in a company that has already learned a great deal about your capabilities and skills from the articles that you have written.

How does Project Management for Today Help with a Personal Brand?

We have developed an opportunity that we define as a “Contributing Author”. It is through the opportunities that we provide to a Contributing Author that we help each member develop their Personal Brand. The goal here at Project Management for Today is to use our collective networks to help each other expand our reach, increase our networks and grow our Personal Brand. We do that by writing and publishing articles on our site about topics we are passionate about, or practical application articles that help people learn a new skill or capability. We then expand our personal reach by publishing and sharing everyone’s articles across all our personal networks. The greater the reach, the greater the readership, the greater our impact. By doing this, all the members of the community benefit from the extended reach of the community membership. Project Management for Today is making the investment in developing the community environment, a place for you to learn and share knowledge. We are continuing to work to develop a solid foundation for the community and to provide content that increases the shared knowledge and available opportunities for everyone involved.

The idea for, and the ideals behind this site are the result of our own search for a way to continue to expand our knowledge and grow our Personal Brands. While there are many ways and many places to do this, the one consistent theme in this search was that many of the places we looked, were driven by the brand of the site, not the brand of the community members. This is what we believe is our difference. We are intent on building a community, and that the community will provide the content. Through this commitment to the greater community, we are successful.
